- Romantic Relationships are a NO.
Don’t even bother with these. I can guarantee that spending 5 days a week with a limited selection of boys can cause you to wear what I like to call the ‘love goggles’. Ultimately, this means that because you spend so much time with these people, you start to convince yourself that these are the only boys that you have a chance with. However, reality hits differently after you graduate and you will realise that there truly are plenty of fish in the sea just waiting for you to catch them. So throw your line out after you finish because much like high school, these romantic relationships are temporary.
- Relax a Little
Of course being organised and completing tasks in class is important, however these are the classes you are going to forget about when you’re done. After you graduate I guarantee you are going to remember the classes you spent playing cool maths games, making Ouija boards and taking the piss out of the guys that sit in front of you in maths. These are the simple antics that I pinkie promise you will miss. So stop being so uptight.
- Participate in Literally EVERYTHING
Join every team, club and participate in all three school carnivals! I really can’t stress this one enough because once you graduate all of these opportunities will diminish faster than it takes to sign up to one of the events. If you said I could have the day of work and university to swim a lap of a pool on an inflatable with my friends or make holes in the running track with shotputs and shit, I’d be there faster than you could set off the starter pistol. Best of all, It’s FREE!!!!
- Ask for Help
Whether it’s from your peers or teachers, there will always be someone willing to help you. I mean teachers get paid to help you succeed so take advantage of that. If they offer an after school tutorial, GO TO IT! Just like that song from high school musical goes, you are ‘all in this together,’ so make a little study group or group chat online because after you graduate it’s really a game of survival of the fittest.
- And Finally…Be Outgoing
If you are like me and don’t want to be forgotten, then make a name for yourself. Those who are quiet and do all the behind the scenes work are easily forgotten. THIS IS NOT A DRILL…I already forget half my grade and I only just graduated. So wear a ridiculous outfit to your schools free dress days, make a life-size diagram of a water tank in your maths test, produce your own catchphrase, audition for the leading role in your school play, run for a leadership role, get those grades, break the school beep test record or just be your quirky self. Whatever you end up doing, work hard at it and I promise you will be remembered.
